Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid Premium Gold Chill Ultra Plush Mattress Review

Sealy Hybrid Gold Chill Ultra Plush Review

Sealy Posturepedic Hybrid

Sealy is well known for its Posturepedic collection and was at one time its own line, nowadays Posturepedic technology is incorporated in nearly every model they make. In their high-end models, Posturepedic tech targets the heaviest part of your body, which sits at the middle third of the bed.

In the Sealy hybrid line, Posturepedic technology uses a higher density of coils in the central third of the mattress, where more coils per square foot are placed into the bed. They use the same coils but arrange them in a way to provide greater support in the central part using a particular pattern that leaves less space between the loops. By doing so, they get 20% more coils it the same amount of space. This higher level of support and firmness at the center can make a big difference. Plus, this makes the center much less likely to sag. It is a subtle, but notable difference, many people appreciate.

Sealy Hybrid Mattresses

Sealy has three types of mattresses- innerspring, memory foam, and hybrid, which is their newest line introduced in 2018. Those three types are broken down into three collections- Essential, Performance, and Premium. The Gold Chill belongs to the Premium Hybrid line.

Typically, these mattresses have a few things in common. The bottom half looks like the innerspring Response line and the upper section looks like the memory foam Conform line. In their bottom section, these hybrid mattresses also have the Sealy-developed Duraflex edge. This features two rows of smaller, firmer coils that circle the perimeter of the mattress to strengthen the edges. Above the main coils in the base that provide zoned support is a sheet of Comfort Flex micro coils that conform to the body and provide extra support.

In the upper section, three layers of conforming foam and a smooth, stretchy cover create a luxurious appearance.

Inside that top section of memory foam, two different types of foam are used. The first is two layers of gel-infused memory foam, Sealy’s Comfort Sense Foam, which responds better to the unique shape of each body. The second is Sealy Immersion Advanced Foam. This is used for the top layer and offers chill cooling technology, has a slower response, and enhanced airflow.

As you can see, Sealy’s most praised hybrid bed is a part of their Premium collection for a good reason.

On the firmness scale, this bed is rated low and is the softest bed of the hybrid line. We suggest it for side sleepers. Back and stomach sleepers might be uncomfortable and require a firmer mattress. It is important to note that memory foam tends to be a firmer naturally, so even this plush mattress will be a bit more firm than a plush pillowtop mattress.

Overall, this is probably the best mattress that Sealy has to offer and the most expensive in this line. It is also the softest and the thickest, with 15 inches high profile.

What People are Saying

The Gold Chill is one of the most highly praised Sealy mattresses on the web, their own site, and Amazon. When you’re looking for something plush for side sleepers or combo sleepers, this is definitely a good choice and one we often recommend. On the web, Rich P. said

“This mattress is like a drug - I've only had it a few nights - but I've been sleeping straight through the night with it, and wake up feeling rested and ache free. We replaced a Tempurpedic with this mattress and it is superior in every way. I can't recommend this mattress highly enough.”

While some mentioned that it can feel a bit firm at first, it seems (like most memory foam or hybrid mattresses) to warm up after a short time. Customer Bill reviewed-

“I purchased the Sealy Hybrid Gold Ultra Plush [...] 4 months ago. At first, I thought it was a little hard for [...] an ultra-plush. However, after about 2 months it [...] has become extremely comfortable - not too firm but certainly not soft either. My wife liked the firmness level right from the beginning, where for me, it took a little adjusting coming from a standard pillow top mattress. What I like about this mattress is it is extremely comfortable without being overly soft. My biggest concern [...] was sinking into the bed and having issues turning over or getting out of the bed. I was having hip pain sleeping in our old mattress (I am mostly a side sleeper), and waking several times per night from the pain and turning over. Since getting the Sealy Hybrid Gold, I have slept very soundly, rarely waking up during the night. [S]o far it feels very sturdy and most importantly extremely comfortable. I can honestly say I look forward to going to bed, knowing I will get a good night’s sleep. If you are a side or back sleeper, I don't think you can go wrong with this mattress.”

Another Amazon user said-

“This is the absolute greatest mattress I have ever owned and/or slept on in my life. I was a little hesitant at first about if I would actually like this because I have tried foam mattresses before and no matter what the product description said, they were always very firm and uncomfortable. Not to mention, I live in a very hot state and the summers here are brutal. [...] The gel foam makes for an incredibly soft sleeping surface while moderating my body temperature. It's soft enough that it feels like a pillow top mattress. The fact the springs below move independently are amazing because we sleep in the bed with a toddler who is a VERY light sleeper. I tend to move around a lot as I sleep and I haven't woken her up from my movement since we got this mattress. Also, my toddler tends to sleep in strange positions that somehow take up the whole mattress and leave me sleeping on the very edge. With my previous mattress that was always the worst because on one side of the bed the edge feels like concrete, the other side is so worn out I would have to hold on to keep from falling out of bed at night. The Solid Edge system on this mattress makes it so that the edge is just as soft and comfortable as the center. If you are looking to upgrade your old [...] mattress [...], I highly recommend the Sealy Hybrid.”

While the larger weight of this mattress considered some, it doesn’t appear to be enough of an issue to keep them from enjoying it.

Patricia Ferdig said-

“We are apartment dwellers, so our bed functions as a seat in our bedroom as well as a bed for sleeping. Because of this, we often have issues with sagging sides or just an uncomfortable/unable to sit on the edge of the mattress. However, because this has a 3.5" section around the whole edge of the bed that provides additional support[...], you do not have that issue with this mattress. [...] The mattress is 1/2 foam 1/2 springs and we cannot feel the springs one bit[...]. I remember the 'pit of doom' that some mattresses have when you change positions - that weird indent that takes a few minutes to go away and reshape[...]. This does not occur and is one less reason I'm waking up in the middle of the night. My husband is a very light sleeper and [... I can] get out of bed without waking him up. [...] Both of us have old back injuries from our youth and have seen improvements in the morning back stiffness[...]. [...] We do not use a box spring with this, just have it on a slatted bed frame, and that works just fine for us.”

Another Amazon review praised-

“If you're looking for a new, top of the line mattress you should really consider this one. My family and I have tried several big-name mattresses over the years, but this was our first Sealy. [...] Once we had the new mattress in place, we all were impressed with the overall build, quality of materials, and stitching. The top where the gel and memory foam is feels so good. It quickly conforms to the contours of your body. After a great night's sleep on it, we don't think we can go back to the standard mattresses. This isn't one of those extra firm mattresses and it isn't a feather bed. [It] allows your body to sink in just enough to where it feels like your body can get good support in each area. Side sleeping, back sleeping, and semi-side/stomach sleeping felt very comfortable. I recommend trying this mattress. It is extra comfortable, very high quality, and has a 10-year limited warranty.”

Kim Baker said-

“Cradles you like a baby....gives you a great night's sleep! We had our last mattress for almost 12 years so it was definitely time to replace it. [...] I'm a side sleeper and this one is supposedly great for that. [...] I have to agree that it is indeed a great mattress for side sleepers (as well as back sleepers like my husband). The first thing you will notice is how big and tall and heavy this mattress is! It is over 14" high and I have to literally "hop" into bed as I am barely 5' tall. But once I'm on there, I am guaranteed a great night's sleep! I had had memory foam before and they are usually too "soft"- this one cradles you without you feeling like you are sinking. It is also breathable - which has alleviated my concerns about it getting overheated. The memory foam is so thick that you absolutely do not feel the springs at all! So far, I haven't woken up with any neck cramps which makes me very happy! I have definitely woken up feeling more refreshed and less achy.”

Kelly on US-Mattress said-

“Never leaving my bed again. Seriously. Quitting my job and staying here forever. Where do I even begin? We exchanged a mattress that was too firm for this mattress (I’m looking at you, Blue Max 1000), and lord almighty, heavens to Betsy, this bed... this little slice of heaven... it’s like sleeping on a cloud... It supports pressure points while feeling all kinds of soft and wonderful. Every time I climb into it, I literally want to cry tears of joy. My heart sings. It’s the nicest thing we’ve ever owned. It’s not time for bed, not by a long shot, but here I lay, writing this review, and it makes me sad that I can’t stay in it all the time (but I’m not gonna lie, I did today). Well done Sealy.”

Edward on US-Mattress said-

“So far it's great. Been sleeping on this mattress for several weeks now, so far so good. It is a great mix of bounce and cushioning and seems to put pressure where it needs to be and give cushioning and mold to your frame everywhere.”

So, as you can see, this mattress is highly recommended by several satisfied customers and we here at BedPlanet.Com often suggest it to our side sleeping customers. It certainly not a “cheap” mattress, however, it is designed to stand the test of time and is rarely returned because the quality started failed over time.

Typically, the only complaints are that memory foam is a bit warmed than traditional innerspring mattresses and that it is a bit firmer as well. These are similar issues that customers experience with any type of mattress that includes memory foam, and you’ll need to take the time to try it out for yourself to determine if those issues affect you.

Fortunately, Sealy mattresses come with an excellent Comfort Exchange policy that can help you to rest easy knowing that if the mattress doesn’t me your needs you can exchange it for one that will suit your needs better.

All in all, we suggest that you give this mattress a try if you sleep on your side or flip between your back and side. It will provide the support and comfort that you need to get a good night’s sleep and the bit of cooling technology can help to make sleeping on the memory foam material much easier.
