Platform Beds Meet Your New Best Friend

platform-friendly adjustable bases

Think You Can’t Have An Adjustable With a Platform? Think Again.

Most of the time when we think of adjustable bases we don’t think of platform beds. However, more and more models are being released that are platform-compatible. As the owner of a platform bed, I greatly appreciate this.

While there aren’t as many options available for a platform as there are for a traditional bed, there are still some fantastic choices, including the affordable Freestyle, the Odessa, Vesta, and Accord using the Elevation Kit, the Tempur Ergo and Ergo Extend, the Sealy Ease 3.0, and the Leggett & Platt Prodigy 2.0.

Glideaway Comfort Base Freestyle Adjustable Base

The  Freestyle Comfort Adjustable Base was designed to fit seamlessly into any existing bed frame or on a platform bed. Normally, additional parts are required to use an adjustable base on a platform bed, but the Freestyle is ready to go right out of the box.

It also offers a strong, yet lightweight German-designed steel frame with a midnight black finish. It has the basic safety features including Emergency Power Down, Power Surge Protection, and Zero Pull Force, and a German-engineered motor.

The motor even utilizes noise displacement for a quieter operation which allows you to sleep peacefully even if an adjustment is made. Plus, the standby mode is ultra-energy efficient.

Freestyle’s Controls

The Freestyle allows for an Upper Body Incline of up to 70 degrees with a Lower Body Incline up to 30 degrees. It also has a One-Touch Flat Button, Zero-Gravity and Anti-Snore Positions, and the overall base height is 3” which means it won’t make your bed much higher. There is also a mattress retainer bar included and a connector plate which prevents separation of the Twin XL size.

Weight Capacity

The combined capacity of two Twin XL’s for a king-size set is 800 lbs, 400 lbs for each Twin XL. A Queen has a maximum capacity of 600 lbs.

Summary

The Freestyle is a great introductory base which is affordable at $899.95 and provides the adjustment you want with the platform compatibility you need.

Glideaway Comfort Bases with the Elevation Kit

Three models in the Glideaway line work with the Elevation Kit- the Odessa, Vesta, and Accord. These are also the top three bases among the brand’s lineup. The Elevation Kit has a host of benefits, one of which is making the base platform-friendly. The patented Elevate feature provides even more customization of the sleeping position. It allows the entire base to raise at an incline of up to 12 degrees. This feature can be used in tandem or be operated separately from the head and foot portions. Additionally, this kit makes the base platform-friendly.

Currently, the Elevation Tilt Mechanism Kit is only available for Twin XL, Queen, Split King, and Split Cal King adjustable beds.

Differences Between Models

These models are top-of-the-line and the best sellers in the Glideaway lineup. They do have a few key differences though. They all offer the ability to be used with Alexa, however, the Accord is a single deck design where the Vesta and Odessa are deck-on-deck design. The Vesta and Odessa also both offer Sleep Enhancement where the Accord doesn’t.

The Vesta and Odessa are also wall-hugging where the Accord is not. The Vesta 3.5" and the Odessa is 12". The Odessa is also the only model with pillow tilt and the only one that is ready upon delivery for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Voice Activation, where the others are only compatible. The Odessa also provides four USB ports.

These are incredible bases that can each be made to fit on your adjustable base. The three options provide you with the chance to choose the one that suits your needs and budget. Check out their product pages to learn more about their specific offerings.

Leggett & Platt Prodigy 2.0

leggett and platt prodigy 2.0 adjustable base

The Prodigy 2.0 adjustable bed base is one of Leggett & Platt’s most popular models. The Exclusive MicroHook™ technology keeps mattresses from slipping and eliminates the need for a retainer bar. The industry’s first capacitive-touch remote and an exclusive app for Apple and Android devices let you easily control this feature-rich base. You’ll be able to independently control the head and foot and even enjoy pillow tilt.

In terms of platform, with the new adjustable legs, you can easily adjust the height of your Prodigy to fit within your platform bed frame. While this base might not be able to sit directly on your platform base, it should be able to go inside it if that is an option for you.

Tempur-Pedic Ergo & Ergo Extend

Advanced features like USB ports, under-bed lighting, zero-gravity presets, and virtually unlimited head and foot lift positions will help you fully optimize your sleeping environment.

Power bases offer a variety of benefits like ergonomic alignment, pressure relief, and a customized sleep position. Clinical studies have suggested that the use of power bases helps open airways to reduce snoring. They’re an essential part of a holistic sleep system and a key ingredient for superior sleep.

Features:

The Ergo Extend offers all this plus Pillow Tilt to enhance your Head Lift with a slight tilt around your neck, enabling more comfortable sleeping, sitting, reading, working or watching TV as well as PerfectSeat, which expands a section of the base to optimize the shape of your mattress for sitting, reading, working or watching TV, and an improved four-zone massage.
