What is an Air Bed?

These Aren’t Your Grandparents Air Beds

One of the easiest ways to have a bad day is to spend the previous night tossing and turning in bed. Whether it’s because of pain, inadequate support, or even issues with congestion or heartburn, sleepless nights lead to rough mornings. Many people struggle to find a mattress that works for them. Some people are fine with traditional innerspring or memory foam mattresses, but they don’t work for everyone. There’s also the issue of finding the perfect mattress for a couple, with each person having different preferences. In this case, air beds can be exactly what takes care of your comfort complaints.

When someone mentions an air bed, an image of something inflatable probably pops into most people’s heads. However, there’s a lot more to an air mattress than just the inflatable aspect. Dial mattresses or adjustable air mattresses are also available and modern air mattresses are designed for much more than a quick setup for a guest.

Instead of the traditional coil system or foam, these mattresses use air chambers to provide adaptable support. These chambers are full of air and run through the mattress, which allows you to customize your comfort by inflating the cells more or less. With these, you can create a plush or a firm mattress in a matter of seconds. And typically, you can do this independently on either side of the bed and independently across the chambers themselves so that the head section might be more firm than the hip area. This way you can find the perfect comfort level for you and your partner’s unique needs.

Air Mattress Zones

A feature found on most modern air mattresses is zone technology. Using the zones, you are able to adjust the bed to whatever setting you want across the length of the bed and on either side. The ultimate solution for a couple sharing a mattress. You can have your soft, plush side, while your partner has the mattress set to firm.

The ultimate customization exists on some air mattresses that allow you to independently adjust several chambers of air across the length of the bed. A perfect problem-solver for someone that has specific pain points, trouble areas, or even a recent injury. More air supporting these areas allows you to get to sleep much easier, and creates less tossing and turning.

The ReST bed coming soon to BedPlanet.Com is an incredible representation of a modern air mattress. Let’s take a look at some of what it offers.

MANUAL MODE

The ReST bed in manual mode offers targeted, customized comfort that you have complete control over. You change support for five separate zones of your body: head, shoulders, lumbar, hips, and legs. There’s also a memory setting that locks in your favorite settings until you change it.

AUTO POSITION MODE

Auto mode allows the bed to adapt as you move and offers preset options that are designed to provide the best comfort for certain types of sleepers. It also provides unique memory settings for back and side support. As you shift during the night, the bed automatically detects your current position and will instantly adjust.

AUTOMATIC MODE

This is similar to the above but doesn’t only focus on the position you’re in. Select your preferred level of support and fall asleep, the bed will do all the work for you throughout the night.

When this mattress becomes available, we’ll give you even more details about how it can serve you.
